Meet Malia Everette
Founder of Altruvistas
Malía Everette
Malía Everette, CEO and founder of AltruVistas, promotes in-depth experiential education and socially responsible travel as an alternative to the type of “sun and fun” tourism that often results in cultural homogenization and does little to benefit local communities and host economies. From 1997-2012, Malía was the director of nonprofit human rights organization Global Exchange’s Reality Tours program. During her tenure at Reality Tours she oversaw the growth and development of alternative travel programs, study seminars, and fact-finding human rights delegations to over 45 global destinations. After two decades of experience pioneering cultural and educational exchanges and ecotours for other organizations, foundations, educational institutions, and families, she founded AltruVistas in 2013.
Malía facilitates experiences around the world, focusing on international relations, human rights, political economy, sustainable development, agroecology, women’s issues, health and healing, responsible business, and the resilience of indigenous cultures. She is an expert on legal travel to Cuba. AltruVistas organizes over 80 domestic and international departures annually.

Rosalyn Acosta
Rosalyn has a masters in Ecotourism with over 15 years of experience creating and managing sustainable travel programs that support local communities and ecosystems around the globe. Her contributions to cultural and environmental work include entities such as; the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, CREST at Stanford University, World Wildlife Fund, Nature Conservancy, United Nations World Tourism Organization, and others.
She has conducted fieldwork, research, and tours in amazing locations such as Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Colombia. Whether creating unique travel programs, presenting, or teaching, her goal is always to inspire self-exploration and create change in the global sustainable and social justice movements. Rosalyn is excited to offer family experiences that integrate indigenous wellness, cultural arts immersion, and sustainability.
Itinerary
Welcome to Athens! Upon your arrival at the Athens International Airport (ATH), a private transfer will whisk you away to our hotel. You’ll have the afternoon to settle in and relax. Later, we will gather for an orientationmeeting to set our intentions for the journey ahead. Enjoy a welcome dinner and an evening to relax.

Today we walk in the footsteps of gods and goddesses. Our journey begins as we pass through the Propylaia, the monumental gateway and ancient threshold to the sacred sanctuary of the Acropolis. With our family-focused guide, we’ll uncover the myths of Athena and Poseidon that echo around the Parthenon. Inspired by the beauty of the morning, we’ll then channel our own creativity in a hands-on workshop, learning the ancient art of Greek pottery or mosaics. After a day of divine inspiration, the evening is yours to explore and dine at your leisure.

Our day journeys from the heart of ancient democracy to the modern Athenian Riviera. We begin by walking through the Ancient Agora, the vibrant marketplace and civic center where Socrates and Plato once debated. After a seaside lunch, we’ll connect with modern Greece’s commitment to nature by visiting the ARCHELON rescue center, where we’ll learn firsthand about the conservation of endangered sea turtles. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax, swim, or snorkel at the beach before an evening at your leisure.

Today we leave the city behind and begin our scenic journey towards the sacred mountains of Delphi. Our path is one of natural wellness, inspired by the ancient wisdom of Hippocrates. We’ll start with a guided nature walk to identify traditional Greek herbs, then engage our senses in a special aromatherapy workshop. Our journey continues with a stop at the magnificent Lake Vouliagmeni, where you can swim and float effortlessly in its unique, therapeutic mineral waters—a true natural spa. Feeling refreshed and restored, enjoy lunch on your own at the lake. The, we’ll complete our drive to Delphi, arriving in the evening at the place the ancients revered as the ‘Navel of the Earth’. Enjoy a farm-to-fork dinner at a family-owned olive farm.

This morning, we delve into the mysteries of Delphi, the sacred center of the ancient world. Standing in the awe-inspiring mountain landscape, we’ll walk the Sacred Way to the Temple of Apollo, where the legendary Oracle once spoke, before viewing world-famous treasures in the archaeological museum. For the afternoon, we immerse ourselves in the region’s local flavors with a “farm-to-fork” lunch, followed by a fascinating tour and tasting at a family-run honey farm, learning all about the local ecosystem. The evening is yours to relax and reflect.

Our final morning in Delphi is dedicated to purification and inspiration. We will visit the sacred Castalian Spring, where ancient pilgrims cleansed themselves before consulting the Oracle, and take time for quiet reflection. We’ll also pay our respects at the nearby sanctuary of Artemis before enjoying a farewell lunch at a local olive farm. In the afternoon, we journey from the mountains to the sea, arriving at our beautiful coastal hotel in Vavrona. The rest of the day is yours to unwind by the pool or feel the sand between your toes at the beach.

Our day begins with one last exploration of an ancient sanctuary in Attica. We’ll visit the fascinating archaeological site of Brauron, once dedicated to Artemis, goddess of the hunt and wild nature. From there, it’s time to take to the skies as we head to the Athens airport for our afternoon flight. Our next destination is Crete, the largest and most mythical of the Greek isles, where a new chapter of our adventure begins.

After yesterday’s travel, our first morning in Crete is dedicated to relaxation and rejuvenation. Settle into the island’s rhythm with a leisurely breakfast and time to enjoy the sun and pool. In the afternoon, we dive into the heart of the ancient Minoan world. With our storyteller guide bringing the myths to life, we’ll explore the legendary Palace of Knossos—the labyrinthine home of the Minotaur. We’ll then view the civilization’s incredible treasures, from famous frescoes to mysterious Snake Goddess figurines, at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. We’ll conclude our day with a relaxed dinner, savoring the warm hospitality and unique flavors of Cretan cuisine.

Today is a special excursion to the world-famous volcanic island of Santorini. Our adventure begins as we step back in time at the incredible Akrotiri archaeological site, a Minoan city perfectly preserved in volcanic ash. We’ll then experience the island’s unique geology with a visit to a famous black sand beach before exploring a charming traditional village, with an opportunity to taste Santorini’s distinctive volcanic wines. Our day culminates in the legendary village of Oia, where we’ll witness one of the most breathtaking sunsets on Earth. Enjoy dinner on your own in Oia before we return to the hotel.

Today, we immerse ourselves in the culture of Crete, from its ancient treasures to its living traditions. Our morning begins with an interactive exploration of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, where we’ll come face-to-face with the enigmatic Phaistos Disc and the iconic Snake Goddess figurines of the Minoan world. In the afternoon, you’ll roll up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking class, discovering the secrets of the famously healthy and delicious Cretan diet using fresh, local ingredients. The best part? We’ll enjoy the incredible meal we’ve created together. The evening if free for you to enjoy.

Today’s journey is a beautiful blend of coastal history and serene natural landscapes. We’ll travel to the enchanting harbor town of Rethymno, where you’ll have time to get lost in the charming maze of its Venetian old town and explore the impressive fortress that stands guard over the sea. Then, we’ll trade the sea for the tranquil beauty of Lake Kournas, Crete’s only freshwater lake, and enjoy some time to paddleboat. We’ll return in the evening, dinner on your own.

Today is dedicated to connection—to the local community, to ancient traditions, and to ourselves. Our morning offers a special opportunity to engage with the heart of Crete by visiting the “Crete for Life” NGO to learn about their inspiring work supporting local youth, followed by a wholesome farm-to-table lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll get creative with our hands, learning to make traditional olive oil soap in a fun, interactive workshop. Enjoy a relaxing evening on your own.

Our final full day is a journey into myth and mountains. We’ll travel to the stunning Lasithi Plateau to explore the legendary Dikteon Cave, the mythological birthplace of Zeus. The day culminates in a nearby village where we experience true Cretan hospitality and a special farewell dinner, providing a warm and intimate setting to share our final reflections.
