Nighttime Fears or Psychic Sight? A Parent’s Guide to Supporting Today’s Intuitive Children

Written by Rosalyn Acosta on . Posted in Heal.

I wanted to open a dialogue about a topic that feels increasingly relevant, one that I have experienced not only in my work but deeply within my own family: the unique inner world of our children, especially when it comes to nighttime fears and sleep.

Astrologically, we are now entering the Age of Aquarius, a significant era of collective evolution. This isn’t just a spiritual concept; it’s tied to a real astronomical process. Due to a slow wobble in the Earth’s axis, our backdrop of constellations gradually shifts over millennia. For the past two thousand years, we have been in the Age of Pisces, an era often defined by hierarchy and dogma.

The transition into the Aquarian age is a slow dawn rather than a sudden switch, but its influence is accelerating. This age represents a profound shift away from individualism toward community, innovation, and a higher, shared consciousness. It’s believed that the children being born in recent years, particularly since the 2000s, are arriving with the “veils lifted.” Their perception of reality is fundamentally different, wired for this new, interconnected world.

What is an Intuitive Child?

We live in a very horizontal world, focused on schedules, tasks, and linear thinking. Children, especially intuitive ones, are naturally more vertical. They live in the dream world, they see and sense subtle energies, and they exist in a state of pure being where time is fluid.

They are here to question the foundations of our world—not just to learn facts, but to understand why things are the way they are. This profound sensitivity is their gift, but it also makes them more vulnerable to the unseen energies around them. Some key characteristics of these children, as noted by spiritual teachers like channeler Carissa Schumacher, include experiencing incredibly vivid or recurring dreams by the ages of 4-6, a deep empathy that can feel overwhelming, and a sense of knowing things without being told.

🌙 The Difference in Nighttime Struggles: Adults vs. Kids

It’s important to recognize that the root of sleep issues often differs between adults and children.

  • For Adults: Our sleep problems are often psychological and stress-related. Our minds get caught in loops of rumination, keeping our nervous systems on high alert. From a quantum physics perspective, we can also be affected by entanglement (feeling the stress of those we’re connected to) and entrainment (our energy field syncing with chaotic frequencies in our environment).

  • For Kids: For highly sensitive and intuitive children, nightmares are often more than just processing the day’s events. They are experiencing energetic realities more directly. Their fears are often rooted in this heightened perception of a world that adults may not see or feel. In the energetic world, like attracts like, so more often than not, the low-frequency entities or energies that may be “bothering” these kids are drawn to one thing: their fear.

A Personal Note: Our Family’s Journey

As a highly intuitive child, I know what it felt like to share my experiences and be met with incredulous looks or ridicule. I didn’t feel safe to share the very real things I was seeing and feeling. Although my mom was receptive to this, I was also maturely cognizant that she had a lot on her plate—raising four kids while my dad was at work, and navigating her own personal life trials. My nighttime issues became things for me to figure out in silent fear, and eventually and thankfully, helpful insights from my guides. This is why creating a sense of safety and empowerment is the most important thing we can do.

This journey has come full circle for me as a mother of three. All of our children have had times of nightmares and trouble sleeping. Our middle child, now 8, used to have horrible nightmares at least once or twice a week that would end with him screaming loudly in the night. More recently, our 6-year-old daughter began having a bout of nighttime fears. By using some of the techniques I’m about to share, we have been successful in gently empowering her to sleep soundly in her own bed again through the night. These are not just theories; they are tried and true practices from our home to yours.

✨ A Sanctuary of Tools: Empowering Your Child

Creating a sense of safety and empowerment is the most important thing we can do. Here are some ideas that blend energetic wisdom with practical support:

✅ The Foundation: Validate, Don’t Dismiss

When a child talks about seeing things or having scary dreams, the most important first step is to listen without judgment. Let them know you believe their experience is real for them. This simple act of validation is the foundation for trust and is incredibly healing.

🐾 Call on Their Power Animal

Every child has spirit animals and guides. Instead of creating a protector from scratch, help them connect with one that is already with them. If your child doesn’t know which one, ask them which animals they are most drawn to. Kids know. If they have always played with elephant toys since they were toddlers or love drawing dragonflies, that is likely a spirit animal they already have an established connection with. Guide them to call on this animal at night, asking it to stand guard and protect their dreams. They can even ask their spirit animal to eat any of the “nightmare bugs” to really make sure they stay at bay.

🧘‍♀️ Calming Bedtime Rituals

Creating a consistent and calming routine helps signal to the body and spirit that it’s time to rest.

  • Yoga & Breath: Before bed, have the whole family do some simple yoga stretches to get the wiggles and stress out. Poses like Cat-Cow (arching and rounding the back on hands and knees) are wonderful for regulating the nervous system. Child’s Pose (kneeling and folding forward) is also incredibly calming and grounding. Afterward, do some breathing together. Start with loud, audible exhales to release pent-up energy—kids love this! Then, guide them into a calmer breath. Make it a gentle game: “Let’s breathe in for 3 counts… hold… and now breathe out for 6 counts.” Extending the exhale activates the body’s relaxation response, calming the mind for sleep.

  • Create an Energetic Bubble: When your child is in bed, have them place their hands on their belly and heart. Guide them through a quick meditation: “Imagine a beautiful golden light forming all around you. See it create a strong, sparkling bubble that surrounds your whole body and your bed. Tell your bubble to stay there all night, keeping you safe and sound.” This teaches them to manage their own energy and feel a sense of control. Dark entities that feed on fear are drawn to that same low frequency. Calling on high-frequency colors helps repel them. You can encourage your child to use different colors for their bubble based on what they need:

    • White and Gold are pure, high-frequency colors for divine protection.
    • Violet is the color of transmutation, turning dense energy into light.
    • Light Blue is calming
    • Green is healing and balancing.
    • Rose Pink is the color of unconditional love, which is a powerful shield.
    • A Rainbow bubble is fun for kids and helps balance their entire chakra system.

💎 Creating a Sacred & Protected Space

The energy of the bedroom itself is crucial.

  • Crystal Guardians: Crystals hold stable, high-frequency energy. Teach your child to assign their crystal a task by speaking to it out loud. Place them strategically: on a bedside table, under the bed, or for a closer connection, under their pillow (as long as it’s comfortable). Having a crystal nearby allows them to reassuringly touch it whenever they need to feel its strength. Some examples are;
    • Black Tourmaline: A master protector that transmutes negative energy into light and is incredibly grounding.
    • Selenite: Like liquid light, it constantly cleanses the energy of the space and brings profound peace.
    • Rose Quartz: The stone of unconditional love, its gentle energy soothes fear and wraps a child in a feeling of safety.
  • The Flower of Life Symbol: This ancient symbol from Sacred Geometry is one of the oldest and most powerful symbols known to humanity, found in manuscripts, temples, and art across the globe for thousands of years. It has been discovered in places like the Temple of Osiris in Egypt, Assyrian palaces, ancient synagogues in Israel, the Golden Temple in India, temples in Japan, and even in the artwork of Leonardo da Vinci. While the exact pattern isn’t always identical, the core principles of sacred geometry are also found in many indigenous traditions, like the Native American Medicine Wheel, which represents the interconnectedness of all life. The Flower of Life is considered a blueprint of creation, containing the patterns of all life. Its perfect, harmonious structure acts as an energetic net that filters out disruptive energies. Print the symbol and place it under your child’s bed. I also imagine sending this symbol energetically throughout the home—latticed over the floors, walls, and ceilings to create a grid of harmony.
  • The Power of the Dreamcatcher: This beautiful tradition originates with the Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) people. The web is said to catch bad dreams while allowing good dreams to filter through. To use this respectfully, hold it with your child and say a blessing: “Thank you to the lineage of cultures for this wisdom. We ask that this dreamcatcher help with [child’s name]’s restful and protected sleep.” This acknowledges it as a sacred tool.
  • Clear the Space Weekly: After physically cleaning the room, do an energetic clearing. You can smudge with traditional plants like sage or Palo Santo to clear the air. For even greater efficacy with persistent or heavy energies, I recommend burning frankincense resin on a charcoal disc or incense stick. Its very high frequency is particularly effective at clearing negativity and inviting in sacred energy.

  • Simple Protections: Wearing red to bed is an ancient protective practice found in cultures from East Asia to ancient Rome, often symbolizing life force (like blood) and warding off negative energy or evil spirits. A Himalayan salt lamp also helps, as its light and the negative ions it releases can disrupt lower energies and purify the space.

By combining these tools, we can create a supportive environment for our children to navigate their inner worlds with courage, empowering them to embrace their gifts rather than fear them.

If you try these practices and are still having difficulty, there could be something more intricate on an energetic level that needs to be addressed. You can book a free clarity call with me to discuss your concerns pertaining to your child’s sleep issues.
