Are You a Seer, Feeler, or Knower? A Guide to Your Unique Intuitive Abilities

Written by Rosalyn Acosta on . Posted in Heal.

We all live our lives on two planes simultaneously. There is the horizontal plane: our daily world of jobs, relationships, deadlines, and to-do lists. It’s tangible and logical. Then there is the vertical plane: the unseen world of energy, spirit, and universal consciousness. It’s our connection to the divine, the source of our deepest wisdom.

I believe true fulfillment arises from learning to balance these two planes—letting the wisdom of the vertical inform and enrich our daily lives. The bridge between these two worlds is your intuition.

It’s a common misconception that intuitive abilities are reserved for a select few. The truth, affirmed by many leading spiritual teachers, is that these senses are a universal part of the human experience that can be developed and strengthened over time. As the intuitive psychic medium Carissa Schumacher explains, “All people have intuitive abilities. Everyone has at least one or two qualities. When someone starts to have 6-7, that means there is a strong vertical attunement.”

This is where I reside. I have operated this way since I was young, and my life has been a journey of refining these abilities, learning how to manage the influx of information, and understanding how to use these senses in a grounded, helpful way.

Like a muscle, the more you understand and use your intuitive senses, the stronger they become. The first step is to identify your primary intuitive style. Most people process intuitive information in one of three primary ways: as a Seer, a Feeler, or a Knower.

The 3 Intuitive Archetypes

👁️ 1. The Seer: Perceiving Through the Clair Senses

Seers perceive the unseen world through a heightening of their psychic senses. For them, intuition is tangible data—visions, sounds, feelings, and knowings. This is the realm of the “clairs.”

  • Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing): The ability to see images, auras, visions, or pictures through your mind’s eye.
  • Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): The ability to hear information inaudible to your physical ears, such as voices, words, sounds, or music.
  • Claircognizance (Clear Knowing): The ability to receive information as a sudden, certain insight or “download” without logical reasoning.
  • Clairsentience (Clear Feeling): The ability to receive information through your own bodily sensations and feelings, including the emotions of others.
  • Clairalience (Clear Smelling): The ability to perceive smells or fragrances without using the physical senses.
  • Clairgustance (Clear Tasting): The ability to taste without using the physical senses.

It’s important not to mistake the development of the clair senses as the destination. They are not trophies to be collected, but sacred tools for your toolkit. Their true purpose is to help you navigate the vertical realm with more grace and clarity, allowing you to live your most authentic, soul-aligned life here on the horizontal plane.

❤️ 2. The Feeler: The Empathic Healer

Feelers have powerful energetic “tentacles” that naturally absorb the feelings and energy of the people, places, and environment around them. Their intuition speaks through the language of emotion and somatic sensation. For a Feeler, the greatest challenge—and greatest gift—is learning to distinguish what energy is theirs versus what belongs to others. They often feel like they are “suffering in silence,” carrying burdens that are not their own. Their path involves mastering tools like energy clearing and using “counter-polarity”—consciously bringing a grounding or joyful energy into a space to raise its vibration.

🧠 3. The Knower: The Conduit for Direct Insight

The path of the Knower is powerful and direct. Out of the blue, they will say something, look at someone, or enter a situation and simply know something with unshakable certainty. This knowing bridges the vertical and horizontal planes in a flash. The primary challenge for Knowers is the tendency to second-guess what comes through, as their logical mind protests, “You couldn’t possibly know that.” Their journey is to cultivate radical trust in the information that surfaces, learning to express their knowing with confidence.

Where Intuition Lives: The Clairs and Your Chakra System

Your intuitive senses are anchored in your energetic anatomy. While the entire system works together, the framework of where each clair sense primarily “lives” is a concept echoed by renowned energy healers and authors like Anodea Judith, Ph.D., in works such as Wheels of Life, and Cyndi Dale, author of The Complete Book of Chakra Healing.

  • Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): The main receiver for Claircognizance (Clear Knowing). It’s your direct antenna to universal consciousness.
  • Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): The undisputed home of Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing). This is the screen of your “mind’s eye.”
  • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): The primary hub for Clairaudience (Clear Hearing).
  • Heart Chakra (Anahata): A powerful center for Clairsentience (Clear Feeling), specifically in the form of empathy—the ability to feel and connect with the emotional state of another.

Solar Plexus (Manipura), Sacral (Svadhisthana) & Root (Muladhara) Chakras: These lower chakras are a powerhouse of Clairsentience, processing gut feelings, primal survival instincts, and relational energy. There isn’t one single chakra for Clairalience (smell) and Clairgustance (taste); they are most often registered in these primal centers, as these senses are deeply tied to memory, emotion, and survival.

Key Energetic Junctions: How the Chakras Work Together

Intuition is rarely a single-chakra event. The chakras work in partnership, creating powerful axes of perception and action.

  • The Crown-Solar Plexus Axis: While the Crown Chakra acts as the antenna that receives a claircognizant “knowing,” the Solar Plexus acts as the processor that gives you the confidence and gut-level certainty to trust it. The Crown receives the idea; the Solar Plexus provides the will to believe it and act on it.

  • The Third Eye-Solar Plexus Axis: This is the axis of Vision and Will. Your Third Eye may give you a clear vision of a path forward, but without the power and self-esteem of the Solar Plexus, that vision remains a daydream. When they work together, you not only see your path, but you have the confidence to walk it.

  • The Heart-Throat Axis: This is the axis of Feeling and Expression. Your Heart Chakra allows you to feel profound love and compassion, but it is your Throat Chakra that gives you the ability to express that love, speak your truth kindly, and communicate your feelings to the world.

My Personal Blueprint: An Inside Look at a Healer’s Abilities

We are all a unique blend of these archetypes, and our abilities can evolve over time. In my own journey, I have come to understand that I am a Seer, a Feeler, and a Knower.

As a Seer, my strongest senses are Clairvoyance, Clairsentience, and Claircognizance. My clairvoyance acts like an energetic x-ray. Before a session, I tune into a client’s field and often receive a clear visual of what needs attention. During the healing, it becomes a dynamic, orchestrated play—I might see crystallized energies to be cleared, dense energetic cords to be cut, or a client’s spiritual team stepping forward to assist. While my clairvoyance provides the visuals, I also receive direct messages through clairaudience or instant downloads of claircognizance from a client’s guides, all weaving together to inform the healing. It’s a dance between clearing the shadows and weaving in luminous, healing light.

As a Feeler, my daily practice is navigating mental and emotional entanglement. Since childhood, I’ve had to constantly ask the question: “Is this my feeling, or someone else’s?” A perfectly pleasant day can be instantly derailed by a wave of sadness that comes from nowhere. While this emotional empathy is constant, I have also experienced a handful of profound physical entanglements—a phenomenon that mirrors concepts like quantum entanglement. I vividly remember a day in high school when I suddenly couldn’t swallow properly all day long. That evening, I learned my grandmother had suffered a stroke and was unable to swallow. The moment I heard the news, the constriction in my own throat vanished completely.

As a Knower, these insights often arrive as a protective and absolute certainty. When studying with a new classmate in college, I was distracted by a clear, disturbing vision of him being physically abusive to a young woman. The knowing was so powerful that I ended the study session and, despite confusion from my friends, refused every invitation to be around him again. Months later, the news circulated that he had been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend. My vision was a warning, and trusting that inner knowing kept me safe.

🔬 The Science of Intuition: From Brainwaves to Quantum Physics

This exploration is no longer confined to the metaphysical; it’s capturing the attention of mainstream science. The prefrontal cortex (PFC), the brain’s incredible conductor, is located at the physical seat of the Third Eye chakra.

Neuroscientists like Richard Davidson at the Center for Healthy Minds have found that long-term meditators show remarkably powerful, coherent gamma brainwave patterns—the frequency associated with moments of profound insight.

Furthermore, a growing number of physicists are exploring how the strange rules of the quantum world might explain psychic phenomena. Nobel Prize-winning physicist Brian Josephson has been vocal about this connection. In a 2001 article in The Guardian, he stated, “I believe that telepathy is a real phenomenon… its basic properties may one day be understood in terms of quantum physics.”

The Path Forward: Tending to Your Intuitive Senses

Your intuitive abilities are like seeds. They don’t need to be forced; they simply need to be acknowledged, nourished, and given a safe space to grow. The journey isn’t about becoming a “psychic,” it’s about becoming more fully yourself.

The first step is simply to notice. As you go through your day, ask:

  • Did I just see that in my mind’s eye? (Seer)
  • Did I just feel a shift in the room’s energy? (Feeler)
  • Did I just know that without knowing how? (Knower)

By simply acknowledging how your intuition speaks to you, you begin the beautiful process of strengthening your own channel, building an unwavering bridge between your daily life and your divine wisdom.
